Clermont L .Best after Antietam:
It appears Capt. Clermont L .Best continued to command the artillery of the 12th Corps through the battle of Chancellorsville, and shortly thereafter (May 15th, 1863) was promoted to Lieutenat Colonel and made Assistant Inspector General, in which capacity he served until April 4th, 1864.
After the war, he eventually rose to the rank of Colonel in the 4th Artillery (comm'd October 2nd, 1883), and retired on the 25th of April 1888.
